Ledger · Version 0.2.0
Theme documentation
A practical guide to configuring procurement-first commerce without overstating what belongs to Shopify, an app or the merchant.
01 / Start here
Install safely
- In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes.
- Choose Import theme → Upload ZIP file and upload Ledger.
- Preview the new theme before publishing. Never overwrite your only working theme.
- Select a preset, connect navigation and collections, then configure product data, policies, markets, shipping and payments.
- Test product discovery, Quick Order, cart and checkout with the store's real catalog rules.
02 / Presets
Choose an operating context
Ledger
The parent preset: a balanced industrial catalog for broad wholesale and procurement use.
Stockroom
Dense MRO and workplace supply for maintenance teams that reorder known parts frequently.
Relay
Technical components organized around models, specifications, compatibility and documentation.
Provision
Case packs, consumables and replenishment workflows for hospitality and operational supply.
Presets provide layout, typography, color and example copy. Demo products, licensed photography, Shopify market settings and payment configuration do not transfer with a theme install.
03 / Discovery
Build the catalog around buying tasks
Create automated or manual collections for genuine product families, then connect them to the header, catalog index and collection sections. Use short category names and expose Quick Order in the primary navigation for repeat buyers.
Filtering and search
Configure filters through Shopify Search & Discovery. Consistent product type, vendor, price, availability and metafield data produces more useful facets. Ledger search supports product titles, SKU and model-oriented catalog copy; search results still depend on data indexed by Shopify.
Dense navigation
Use the catalog index and collection navigation to expose meaningful routes rather than duplicating every collection. Test long labels and nested navigation on mobile and in every published language.
04 / Product records
Make specifications purchasable
Maintain accurate titles, descriptions, variants, SKU, barcode, inventory, unit pricing, compare-at pricing, product type and media in Shopify admin. Ledger can display this information but cannot repair incomplete product records.
Documents and technical data
Use product metafields and the theme's document and specification blocks for manuals, safety sheets, dimensional drawings, certificates and downloadable files. Give every document a clear title, file type and revision where applicable.
Media
Upload licensed, consistently framed product media with useful alternative text. Confirm that variant media changes when a variant is selected and test both portrait and landscape images.
05 / Batch ordering
Quick Order and CSV import
The Quick Order collection view lets buyers search the active catalog, enter quantities for multiple variants and add the selected lines to cart in one operation. Keep SKU and barcode values unique and stable.
CSV format
Use a header row containing sku, barcode and quantity. A row may identify a variant by SKU or barcode; quantity must be a whole number. Duplicate identifiers are consolidated before the cart request. Unmatched or invalid rows are reported and are not silently substituted.

06 / Commercial rules
Quantity rules and volume pricing
Ledger presents Shopify's native minimum, maximum and increment rules and any price breaks returned for the selected variant and buyer context. Configure those rules in Shopify admin where the store plan and catalog support them.
The theme does not create contractual pricing, approve companies or enforce Shopify B2B price lists. Native B2B catalogs, quantity rules and contextual pricing remain Shopify features and can require an eligible Shopify plan.
07 / Buyer tools
Compare and reorder
Product comparison helps buyers review selected items side by side. Keep comparable specifications consistent across each product family so differences remain meaningful.
Ledger's saved and repeat-order helpers are intentionally stored in the current browser. They do not synchronize across devices, accounts or browsers. Persistent account-level saved lists require a compatible Shopify or app-based implementation.
08 / Organizations
Company-account-ready interface
The header uses Shopify's customer account component, and Ledger can present company and location context supplied by Shopify. Configure customer accounts, companies, locations, catalogs, permissions and payment terms in Shopify admin.
Ledger does not grant B2B eligibility by itself. Test signed-out, retail customer and company buyer states separately, including any approval or quotation workflow supplied outside the theme.
09 / Purchase path
Large carts and checkout
The cart is designed to remain readable with many lines and supports quantities, line properties, selling plans, discounts, notes and merchant-facing purchase-order or delivery-request fields. Checkout, tax calculation, shipping, payment and inventory validation are controlled by Shopify.
Before launch, test an empty cart, one line, mixed variants, sold-out changes, quantity-rule errors and a representative 20–100-line order. Confirm that failed or partially added Quick Order lines receive a clear message.
10 / Markets
Languages, currencies and RTL
Ledger bundles English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Arabic theme interface translations. Publish languages and assign them to markets in Shopify admin. Translate product, collection, navigation, policy and merchant-authored section content separately through Shopify Translate & Adapt or another compatible workflow.
Arabic activates the theme's right-to-left layout. Review long labels, tables, filters, account controls and embedded app content in the live market. Currency availability and price conversion are controlled by Shopify Markets and payments configuration.
11 / Inclusive use
Protect the accessible foundation
Ledger includes keyboard navigation, focus management, reduced-motion handling, semantic tables, live status messaging and a skip link. Merchant content can still introduce accessibility failures.
- Keep headings in logical order and controls clearly labeled.
- Write useful alternative text for informative images.
- Do not communicate availability or status with color alone.
- Test keyboard navigation, 200% zoom and screen-reader output after installing apps.
12 / Performance
Keep dense catalogs fast
- Upload appropriately cropped, compressed product media.
- Avoid loading large documents or video above the fold.
- Keep third-party apps, pixels and custom fonts to a minimum.
- Use Shopify-hosted assets and native responsive image output.
- Re-test home, collection and product pages on mobile and desktop after catalog or app changes.
13 / Troubleshooting
Common questions
Why does Quick Order show the ordinary collection page?
Confirm that the link uses the Quick Order collection template and that the template exists in the installed theme. Re-select the collection template in Shopify admin after an update if necessary.
Why are quantity breaks missing?
Confirm that the selected variant and buyer context have native Shopify quantity rules or price breaks. Theme settings alone cannot create them.
Why is a document or specification empty?
Connect the expected product metafield or selected page and verify that it is available to the Online Store.
Why is translated content still English?
Bundled locale files translate the theme interface. Product data, menus and section copy require content translation and a published language assigned to a market.
Can saved orders follow a buyer to another device?
No. The built-in helper is browser-local. Use an account-aware Shopify or app workflow for synchronized lists.
